Infant Care Center

The Infant Care Center is a licensed childcare facility that offers the children of the Teen Parenting Program students an interactive, educational environment to help stimulate growth and development. In addition to licenses from Arlington County and the state of Virginia, the APT Infant Center has received grant funding from the Child and Adult Care Food Program | USDA-FNS and Reading is Fundamental (RIF) program. The Center also operates through childcare subsidies from the Arlington County and Commonwealth of Virginia Departments of Health & Human Service with the support of Arlington Public Schools.

Our Hours of Operation & Calendar

The Infant Care Center operates from 7:30 am – 3:45 pm, Monday – Friday and follows the APS calendar. Services are provided for parenting teens taking Summer School courses as well. More information about the APS calendar can be found on the APS website.

Teen Parent Enrollment Procedure

The Benefits for Parents

The parents are involved in their child’s learning, as their infant/toddler is participating in a curriculum-based program. The Funshine Curriculum is aligned with the highest quality standards in Early Childhood Education. Newsletters, calendars, book lists, blog articles and much more, keep the parents informed. Children with parents’ involvement tend to do better in school and show stronger social skills throughout life.

About Our Classrooms

The Infant Center enrolls children ages zero months through four years old and are served through separate classrooms which cater to the different needs of the children according to their ages. The APT Infant Center provides instruction for students based on age. The classrooms are as follows:

  • The Sesame Street Room: ages 0 months to 11 months
  • The Mickey Mouse Room: ages 12 – 23 months
  • The Umizoomi Room: age 2 years old
  • The Lil’ Einstein Room: ages 3 – 4 years old

About Our Curriculum

The infants and toddlers enjoy early learning activities during the day through the FunShine Express Curriculum. It is a professionally designed Early Learning program for young children. Lesson plans encompass all areas of a child’s development: Language, Cognitive, Physical, and Social.

Children learn best through interacting with their environment, and FunShine Curriculum activities are designed with that in mind. They will help us prepare your children for a bright future and have fun along the way!

Support for Parenting Teens

The Infant Center works closely with the Outreach Office to help support parenting teens with children in the program. Additionally, the Infant Center provides parenting sessions during the school year and encourages parents to participate in events and celebrations held throughout the year.
